Oil sheens spotted at Shell Energy and Chemical Park Singapore on Bukom are being worked on

Oil sheens were spotted alongside a wharf on December 26, 2024 at Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Singapore on Bukom.

We can confirm that oil sheens were spotted alongside a wharf on December 26, 2024 at Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Singapore on Bukom. This is suspected to be from one of the oil processing units, resulting in some of the refined oil products to be released into the water. We have temporarily shut down one of the oil processing units to investigate this leak. Emergency response specialists have been activated to manage the situation.

Shell is actively working with the relevant authorities to manage the clean-up effort. We have laid absorbent and containment booms, sprayed dispersants in the channel where the cooling water is being discharged and activated an in-built oil skimmer system. Together with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), we have deployed boats to clean up light oil sheens observed off Pulau Bukom using both dispersants and absorbent booms, as well as drones for surveillance. No oil patches are currently observed in the vicinity of Pulau Bukom.

The health and safety of our people and the environment are our top priority as we work on resolving this as quickly as possible.
