Singapore: A 21ˢᵗ century energy hub
Singapore is one of the world’s largest oil product distribution hubs and is an important part of the energy system in the Asia-Pacific region. But its major customers are now looking to transition their energy systems, with a view to achieving net-zero emissions in the decades ahead. That means change for the energy sector in Singapore and has implications for the future prosperity of the country.
As the transformation gathers pace, what might happen in Singapore and how could its role as an energy hub change? How might Singapore influence the direction and pace of change, so the country is best placed to maintain its regional energy role?
In this Scenario sketch, these questions can be tackled through the lens of scenario planning. The 2021 Shell Energy Transformation Scenarios – Waves, Islands and Sky 1.5 – explore different initial recovery responses from the pandemic and how these responses develop into future pathways throughout the 2020s and well beyond.
Scenario analysis is a useful tool for understanding new trends and directions. We hope that this work helps inform readers about an otherwise uncertain future.
