FAQs - Students and Graduates
Find information about applying for Students and Graduates opportunities at Shell.
Does Shell have a closing date?
We have introduced a closing date in Singapore to provide clarity for applicants and to ensure we are at the top of your list when you are making your job applications. We believe this will enable us to process applications more quickly and be transparent about the roles that are still available. We advise you apply as early as possible as we may close some business areas once the roles are filled.
I wanted to apply for the Shell Graduate Programme or the Shell Assessed Internship but have missed the deadline, what should I do?
The Shell Graduate Programme and Assessed Internship Programme will have business areas that close once these roles are filled. You will have to wait until the applications are open again. The opening dates for these will be displayed on our website - we recommend that you register with the Shell Talent Community to receive updates on opening times for these applications.
When do applications reopen?
The opening dates for the Shell Graduate Programme and the Shell Assessed Internship programme will be displayed on our website and we recommend that you register with the Shell Talent Community to receive updates on opening times for these applications. We review applications for the Shell Graduate Programme once we receive them and fill roles on an ongoing basis. Therefore we recommend you submit your application early.
Always check our latest information on closing dates and our latest availability on our Role Availability page.
I have already graduated and have some work experience; am I eligible to apply for a Graduate role?
Yes. You may be surprised to find that you wouldn't be the only graduate in Shell who joins us with previous work experience. In terms of process, you will still need to apply in the same way as any other graduate.
Can I apply for the Shell Assessed Internship in my final year?
To apply for a Shell Assessed Internship, you must be in your penultimate year of study. Candidates in their final year of study or those that have graduated should apply for the Shell Graduate Programme.
For example, applying on the 1st September 2017, the internship will take place in the summer of 2018 and graduation should take place in 2019.
I was unsuccessful in my application for the Shell Graduate Programme or Shell Assessed Internship, can I reapply?
If you have reached the Stage 1 Assessments (Online Tests and Self Recorded Video Interview) for either the Shell Graduate Programme or the Shell Assessed Internship Programme and were unsuccessful, you can reapply 12 months from the date of your application.
If you have taken part in the Stage 2 of the application process or completed the Shell Assessed Internship, you can apply again 3 years from the date of when those activities concluded.
We advise these timings to allow candidates to build up the necessary skills or competencies that are required to be successful in the application process.
What happens if I re-apply within 12 months of my application?
The system may allow another submission of another application if you apply to a different requisition. For example, if you previously applied to the Internship programme, completed the online tests and self recorded video interview, and then applied to the Graduate programme within 12 months, we may use the scores that you had in those assessments to re-evaluate your application. We recommend that you do not apply within 12 months of your previous application as this may use your previous scores and prevent you making another application for another 12 months.
I’m waiting for a date for my Stage 2 Final Assessment, what should I do?
If you have received an email advising that you have reached the Stage 2 Final Assessment part of the application process, we are in the process of scheduling assessments and will be contacting you once we have an available time and date. For the first part of the application process, all sections of the online tests and the self recorded video will need to be completed before the application can be reviewed and progressed to Stage 2 Final Assessment.
I haven’t got a response to my application, what should I do?
You can track your application online by logging into your account. In the initial stages of the application process, applicants are given 10 days from receipt of their email invitation to complete each of the Online Assessments and Self Recorded Interview. After this 10 day period, if either of elements are not completed, the application will be automatically withdrawn and you can re-apply in 12 months time from the date of application.
If you have not received an invitation to the Online Tests or the Self Recorded Interviews, you must contact our team within this timeframe to complete these elements. The Online Test and the Self Recorded Video Interview come in separate emails and may end up in your junk mail. We cannot extend the 10 day window or re-activate the elements of the first stage if you contact us afterward the 10 day window at careers@shell.com.
Do you sponsor Visas?
For now, applicants must be a resident or citizen of Singapore at the time of applying.
If you do not currently have the legal, long-term right to live and work in Singapore, there are a number of possibilities:
- You could also consider making an application for a role with a Shell company in a country where you already have the legal right to work
- Shell is a global company and we are recruiting talent for our global operations. It is possible that if you apply in Australia, we may offer you a position in another country, depending on the opportunities available in countries where you have the long-term legal right to work
Can I make more than one application to work in different countries?
No. You can indicate a preference to work in more than one country, but you cannot make separate or multiple applications.
Multiple applications within the system may lead to a delay in processing or application being withdrawn.
Should I declare my disability?
If you have a disability or long-term health condition, we can offer support to enable you to perform at your best during the recruitment process. Whilst this list is not exhaustive, this may include Dyslexia, visual impairments or mental health issues. Sharing this information with Shell enables the Disability Focal Point to proactively contact you to understand how Shell can best support you during the recruitment process.
It also allows accurate monitoring of your application, ensuring that you will always be contacted about assessments and the adjustments you may require. Information is used only to provide support; it does not affect the outcome of any assessments. It can also be used to ensure that you are provided with the adjustments that you need to enable you to perform in the workplace.
Simply select the option within the application form or contact us during any part of the application process at careers@shell.com.
